History

Coosa County was formed in 1832 from lands included in the Creek Indian Treaty of Cusseta. It was named for the Coosa River, which forms its western boundary. Coosa County lies in the east-central part of the state in the western-most end of the Piedmont Region. It is bordered by Shelby, Talladega, Clay, Tallapoosa, Elmore, and Chilton counties. Its county seat is Rockford. Other towns and communities include Equality, Nixburg, and Goodwater . Rockford, on US-231, is 60 miles southeast of Birmingham and 40 miles north of Montgomery
