Coosa County
History
Coosa County was
formed in 1832 from lands included in the Creek Indian Treaty of Cusseta. It was
named for the Coosa River, which forms its western boundary. Coosa County lies
in the east-central part of the state in the western-most end of the Piedmont
Region. It is bordered by Shelby,
Talladega, Clay,
Tallapoosa, Elmore, and
Chilton counties. Its county seat is Rockford. Other
towns and communities include Equality, Nixburg, and Goodwater . Rockford, on
US-231, is 60 miles southeast of Birmingham and 40 miles north of Montgomery
