Obituary* | 6 Feb 1999 | SYLVESTER, Ga. -- Mr. Gordon R. Culpepper, 66, of 301 E. King St., died Wednesday, 3 Feb 1999. Mr. Culpepper was born 27 Mar 1932, in Worth County and was the owner of a State Farm Insurance Agency. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 25 years and had served as the Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member and past president of the Sylvester Lions Club, past governor of the Lions District 18-C and was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Club International. He served as District Fund-Raising Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America and was president of Life Underwriters Association of Georgia. He was a member of the board of directors of the Worth County-Sylvester Chamber of Commerce and was area vice-president of the Georgia State Association of Life Underwriters and the state chairman of Life Underwriters Training Council. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Stephens Culpepper of Sylvester; two sons, Ret. CPO Gordon R. 'Ricky'' Culpepper of Pass Christian and Vincent S. Culpepper, M.D., of Macon, Ga; a daughter, June Culpepper Bledsoe of Douglasville, Ga; four brothers, John S. Culpepper and Charles Culpepper, both of Sylvester and Willie H. Culpepper and Mack Culpepper, both of Poulan, Ga; four sisters, Ruby C. Chapman of Sumner, Ga., Nancy C. Story of Sylvester, Jane C. Thompson of Poulan and Mary C. Willis of Ty Ty, Ga; and six grandchildren. A service will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 309, Sylvester GA 31791.1 |
