Coast Prairies and Marshes Region, Wharton
County was formed in 1846 from
Brazoria, Colorado, Jackson
and Matagorda
Counties. Its county seat,
Wharton,
is on US-59, about 60 miles SW of Houston. Wharton is bordered by the counties
of Colorado, Austin, Fort Bend,
Brazoria, Matagorda and Jackson.
