County History and Geography
In the South Texas
Brush Country Region on the Rio Grande River, Hidalgo
County was formed in 1852 from Cameron County.
Its
county seat, Edinburg, is on US-281, about 220 miles
south of San Antonio and 115 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. Hidalgo County is
bordered by the counties of Cameron, Willacy,
Brooks, Kenedy and Starr, plus the
Mexican state of Tamaulipas.
