County History and Geography

On the eastern edge of the Llano Estacado on the southern High Plains of Texas, Dawson County was formed in 1876 from Bexar and Young Territories. Its county seat, Lemesa, is 60 miles south of Lubbock and about 300 miles west of Dallas. Dawson is bordered by the counties of Terry, Lynn, Borden, Martin, and Gaines.
