Garvin County

History
In the Lake Country
of south central Oklahoma,
Garvin County was formed in 1907 from
Chickasaw
Nation land. Its county seat,
Pauls Valley, is on
I-35 about 50 miles south of Oklahoma City. Garvin is bordered by the counties of
McClain, Pontotoc, Murray, Carter, Stephens and
Grady.

Census Records
Oklahoma was
opened to white settlers with the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. The
earliest extant census for Oklahoma Territory is for 1900, and Oklahoma
Territory became a state in 1907. No Culpeppers
have been found in any Garvin County censuses prior to 1940.
