Columbus County

County History and Geography

In the Inner Coastal Plain and the southeastern part of North Carolina, Columbus County was formed in 1808 from Brunswick and Bladen Counties. Whiteville, its county seat, is on US-701, about 100 miles south of Raleigh. Columbus is bordered by the North Carolina counties of Robeson, Bladen, Pender and Brunswick, and the South Carolina county of Horry.
