St. Mary Parish
History
In the Cajun region of
coastal Louisiana,
St. Mary Parish was formed in 1811 from Assumption
Parish. Its
parish seat,
Franklin, is on
US-90 about 120 miles west of New Orleans. St. Mary is bordered by the parishes of
Iberia, St. Martin and Terrebonne, as well as by the Gulf of Mexico.
