Cherokee County
History
In the southeastern
corner of Kansas,
Cherokee County was formed in 1860 from McGee County. Its county seat,
Columbus, is on
US-69 about 150 miles SSW of Wichita and 90 miles NE of Tulsa, OK. Cherokee is bordered by the Kansas counties of
Crawford and Labette, the Missouri counties of Jasper and Newton, and the
Oklahoma county of Ottawa.
