History
In northeastern Iowa,
Fayette County was formed in 1847 from unorganized
land. Its county seat, West Union, is on
US-18, about 150 miles northeast of Des Moines. Fayette is bordered by the counties of
Winneshiek, Clayton, Buchanan, Bremer and Chickasaw.
