Marion County
History
In the
Central/Space Coast Region of
Florida,
Marion County was formed in 1844 from
Alachua and Orange counties. Its county seat,
Ocala, is on
I-75 about 70 miles northeast of Orlando miles and 80 miles north of Tampa. Marion is bordered by
Lake George and the
counties of
Alachua,
Putnam, Lake,
Sumter, Citrus and
Levy.
