Franklin County
History
On the Gulf coast in the
Panhandle Region of
Florida (aka Redneck Riviera),
Franklin County was formed in 1832 from
Jackson County. Its county seat, Apalachicola, is on
US-98 about 65 miles southwest of Tallahassee and 140 miles east of Pensacola. Franklin is bordered by the
Gulf of Mexico and the
counties of Gulf, Liberty and
Wakulla.
