History
In the Northeast Region of
Florida,
Clay County was formed in 1858 from
Duval County. Its county seat, Green Cove Springs, is on
US-17 about 20 miles south of Jacksonville. Clay is bordered by the
counties of
Duval,
Saint Johns, Putnam, and
Bradford.
