in the Southwest Region of
Florida,
Charlotte County was formed in 1921 from
DeSoto County. Its county seat, Punta Gorda, is on
I-75 about 75 miles south of Tampa and 175 miles northwest of Miami. Charlotte is bordered by the
Gulf of Mexico and the counties of Sarasota,
DeSoto,
Glades, and Lee.
