History

In San Francisco's South Bay Area and embracing the heart of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara County was formed in 1850 as an original California County. Its county seat, San Jose, is on CA-101, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Santa Clara is bordered by Alameda, Stanislaus, Merced, San Benito, Santa Cruz and San Mateo.
