Mississippi County

County History and Geography

In the Delta Region of eastern Arkansas, Mississippi County was formed in 1833 from Crittenden County. Its county seat, Blytheville, is on I-55, about 200 miles northeast of Little Rock. Mississippi County is bordered on the west and south by the Arkansas counties of Craighead, Poinsett and Crittenden, on the north by the Missouri counties of Dunklin and Pemiscot, and on the east by the Mississippi River and the Tennessee counties of Tipton and Lauderdale.
