Marshall County
History
Marshall County was
created in 1836 from parts of Madison, Blount and Jackson counties, as well as
from Indian lands. It is located in the northeastern part of the state in the
Appalachian Mountain Region. The Tennessee River cuts through the northern part
of the county, creating Guntersville Lake, which was first filled in 1939. The
county seat is at Guntersville. Other towns in the county include Arab,
Albertville and Boaz. Guntersville is on US-431 about 40 miles SSW of Huntsville
and 70 miles NNW of Birmingham.
