Obituary*27 Aug 1838 Died... At his residence in Monroe County, on the 14th inst., Mariner Culpepper, Esq., in the forty sixth year of his age. In the death of Mr. Culpepper, the county and state has lost one of its most worthy citizens, and his family sustained an irreparable loss. The deceased was much esteemed by his neighbors and acquaintenances generally; and having provided beautifully for his family, was ever ready to help the needy. He was a lover of the Gospel, and liberal in its support. Although the deceased had not united in public profession with any church, his sentiments were with the regular Baptists, and had for several years professed to have a hope in the Lord. This hope continued firm and bright to the last. When asked by a firend in regard to this hope, he replied, "it is in Christ," and then fell asleep in Jesus.18
