This was photographed 1946. Mom say's she was 21 years old at the time. They were on their way to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. (And the sun was shining in their faces.) That's the closest thing you'll ever see to a smile on Dave Culpepper's face! And he flashed that big ol' grin just for my mom! (smiles.)1

One of which became a full Major in the U.S. Army Nurses Corp. Which was quite an accomplishment for an African American woman back in those days!
     "Dave Culpepper worked on his farm until he was 93 years old. In 1962 he was walking a calf to the barn and the calf knocked him over which broke his hip. He was wheelchair and bed bound until his death in 1969."1
