(According to his widow's War of 1812 Pension record, John served as a private in Captain Kemper's Company of Mississippi Militia in the War of 1812. He enlisted 7 October 1813 at Ford in Hancock County, MS, and was discharged there 23 November 1813. John lived in Lawrence County, MS from his discharge in 1813 until his death in 1860. The record also states that he was born around 1791, was a farmer, 6 ft. tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and light colored hair..)2,3 
Tax roll*between 1831 and 1833 A John Culpepper was listed in the 1831 and 1833 Personal Tax Rolls for Hinds County, MS, but it is not known whether this was John Culpepper of Marion Co., MS or John Culpepper of Lawrence Co., MS. Most likely it was the latter. 
Marriage*15 Jul 1835 He married Mary Ferrell at Simpson Co., Mississippi, on 15 Jul 1835 at age 43. Note that Simpson County, where John and Mary married in 1835, is in between Hinds County (where a John Culpepper paid taxes in 1831 and 1835) and Lawrence County, where John and Mary subsequently lived. The Pearl River flows through or at the edge of all three counties.2

Death*18 Feb 1860 He died at Lawrence Co., Mississippi, on 18 Feb 1860 at age 67.2

This is a list of the names and birthdates for Henry Stokes and wife Sarah, their 11 children and about 60 grandchildren. On 29 Jun 2010, Jean Odom Carter, who owned the document, created a scanned image which was then transcribed by Voncille Bush and edited by Sarah Murphy and Gerry Lee.
