    David Edwin Culpepper was born in 1950 in Sylacauga, AL to Frank Edwin Culpepper and Sara Perry Culpepper. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1974 and later received Masters and Educational Specialist degrees from there.

    Dave was in the active Air Force Reserves for 28 years and served as the Squadron Commander for the 25th Aerial Port Squadron, Maxwell AFB, AL, before retiring in June 2003 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

    As an educator, he served at Winterboro High School, Alpine, AL, from 1975 to 1987, as an English, speech, and physical education teacher, as well as the head basketball coach and assistant football coach. From 1988 until 1994, he served at Talladega High School (AL) as English and speech teacher and head basketball coach. He coached 500 basketball games in his career, winning 64%, and had six players go on to successful college careers.

    Winning the Kimbrough Scholarship awarded by the Alabama Secondary School Principals' Association to help aspiring principals, he became an administrator and served as Assistant Principal during 1994-1998 at Ellis Junior High in Talladega. He then served as Principal at Young Elementary in Talladega for six more years before retiring in 2002 with 27 years of service with the state of Alabama.

    As of 2011, David is principal of Chattahoochee Elementary School, Cumming, GA, with his teacher wife, Reba Lewis Culpepper.
