He was a World War II Army veteran and a former employee of the American Theatre and Community Grocery on Elm Avenue. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Rea B. and Betty M. Culpepper, Roanoke; one niece, Martha Culpepper Collingwood, Lexington; one nephew, Rea B. Culpepper Jr., Charlottesville; four cousins, Katherine Ellis, James E. McFarland Jr., Reby Barnes, and Judy Fratteroli; and a dear friend, Virginia Collins. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Riverview Cemetery, Charlottesville. The Rev. Jay Sanderford will officiate. The family will receive friends at the home. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.6
