Obituary*18 May 2011 Talbotton, GA- Eugene Brooks Culpepper, age 80, died Sunday May 15, 2011, at Columbus Hospice of Al. in Columbus, Ga.
     Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Talbotton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lee Bennett and Rev. James Emery officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, with visitation following at the Talbotton United Methodist Church.
     Mr. Culpepper was born January 12, 1931, in Geneva, Ga., to the late Marion McCrary Culpepper and Brooks Culpepper. He attended Talbotton Schools and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was head of the Planning Committee in Savannah, Ga., and also worked for Metropolitan Planning Commission of Columbus, Ga. He was a member of Talbotton United Methodist Church, Talbotton Lions Club, Pine Mountain Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Georgia Farm Bureau, and the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce. His passion was history, including history of Talbot County, and morning coffee sessions at the drug store.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Culpepper, a niece Beneta Culpepper Evans, and a nephew, Nathan Caldwell.
     Survivors include his sister, Carole Caldwell and her husband Jack of Longwood, FL; a sister-in-law, Barbara Culpepper of Jacksonville, FL; three nephews, J. Gardner Culpepper and his wife Carol Ann of Newnan, Ga., Eugene Caldwell and his wife Carol of De Pere, WI, and Philip Caldwell and his wife Suzie of De Pere, WI; also four great-nieces and four great-nephews.
     Flowers will be accepted or those who desire may make memorial contributions to Talbotton United Methodist Church, the Oak Hill Cemetery Fund, or Columbus Hospice of Al. 7020 Moon Rd Columbus, Ga. 31909.
Talbotton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.1
