Biography* Missouri Annah was the daughter of John James and Ann Malvina (Culpepper) Elliott. Missouri was noted as a one year old in the 1860 census of Randolph Co., AL and this is where she is presumed to have been born. She was not yet four years old when her father died in the Civil War. Missouri and her younger brother were recorded with their widowed mother in the 1870 census of Randolph Co., AL.

In 1876, Missouri married James Harris and they settled down to raise their family in Randolph Co., AL. Missouri was 32 years old when she lost her husband.

She was noted with her children in 1900 census of Louina (now Wadley), Randolph Co., AL. In the 1910 census, it was noted that Missouri had had six children, four of whom were still living in 1910. Only five children have been accounted for. There must have been another child that was born after the 1880 census who died or was married before the 1900 census. Missouri is presumed to have remained living in or near Wadley, Randolph Co., AL the remainder of her life. She died in 1947 at the age of 87.

Biography* Lewis Benjamin Elliott was the son of John James and Ann Malvina (Culpepper) Elliott. Although Lewis Benjamin Elliott's son was known as Lewis Brasher Elliott, Jr., the middle name of Lewis, Sr. is believed to have been Benjamin. Unfortunately, the middle name was not noted in census records and the family Bible was destroyed when Lewis Benjamin Elliott's house burned down. However, Mrs. T. R. (Sarah Murphy) Wainscott noted (letter 7 Jul 1977) that the name was recorded as "Lewis Benjamin" in the family Bible of Mrs. J. H. (Missouri Elliott) Harris, Lewis Benjamin Elliott's sister.

Lewis Benjamin was only a year and a half old when his father died in the Civil War. He was recorded with his older sister and their widowed mother in the 1870 census of the Louina P. O. District, Randolph Co., AL. This area is now known as Wadley, AL and Lewis Benjamin is believed to have spent the rest of his life in or near this area.

Based on the age of their oldest known child, Lewis appears to have married Mary Ella McGill around 1878. The couple was noted with their infant daughter in the 1880 census in Beat 8 of Randolph Co., AL. Beat 8 appears to have been in the vicinity of Flat Rock (now Almond) to the west of Wadley, AL. Ella died in Flat Rock in January of 1900. Lewis Benjamin Culpepper was 38 years old and he was noted as a widower in the 1900 census.

In September of 1900, Lewis Benjamin married Emily A. Powell and the couple is noted in 1910 census of Wadley, AL. Mrs. Abner (Coral Lee Carlisle) Coker recalled that both Lewis B. Elliott and his son, John Will, were tenors and had beautiful voices.4 According to the death certificate,5 "Lewis B. Elliott" died in Wadley, AL in 1934. His occupation was noted as "Farming and milling." He worked up to the day of his death from cardiac failure at the age of 72.

Biography* Ulysses Benjamin Elliott was the son of Lewis Benjamin and Mary Ella (McGill) Elliott. U. B. Elliott was known as "Ullas." The name on the death certificate, supplied by his son, Mr. U. B. Elliott, Jr., reads "Ullas Benjamin Elliott." The name on the tombstone is "Ullas Ben Elliott." In the 1900 census he was listed as "Ullis B." and in the 1910 census, he became "Ben U." And he was noted as "E. B. Elliott" possibly for "Eulas" in the marriage record with Annie Clegg. But according to his niece, Mrs. W. M. (Odessa Elliott) Gay,3 his name was actually Ulysses Benjamin Elliott. Also according to the death certificate, Ullas B. Elliott was the son of Lewis Brasher Elliott and Mary Ella McGill and was born in DeKalb Co., AL. In fact, the father's name appears to have been Lewis Benjamin Elliott and he has been located in 1880 and 1900 census records in Randolph Co., AL. Unfortunately, the 1890 census records burned and so it is not known if he might have been in DeKalb Co., AL for a time.

In any event, "Ullis B. Elliott" was noted living with his father in the 1900 census of Randolph Co., AL and this is where Ullas married and was noted living with his wife and young family in the 1910 census.

According to the death certificate, Ullas farmed all of his life and he had lived at Cragford, Ala. Rt 1, "Randolph" Co., AL for 34 years. The location of the residence was given as Cragford, Route 1, Beat 8 and the street address was "430" but no street name was given. Perhaps it was a box number? On current maps, Cragford is in Clay Co., AL. Perhaps Ullas farmed land in Randolph Co., AL and the nearest town and postal district was in Cragford, Clay Co., AL? Ullas died of Myocardial Infarct caused by an accute coronary he had suffered two days before his death. He was 76 years old.

Biography* The following death notice is from an unknown source: Mrs. Vera Pearl Elliott Mrs. Vera Pearl Elliott, age 88, of 1009 Truitt Ave., LaGrange, Ga., died at her home Saturday, Feb. 16, 1980. A former resident of Randolph County and wife of late Robert Freeman Elliott of Wadley, Mrs. Elliott is survived by one son, William L. (Shorty) Elliott of Rt. 1 Wadley; one daughter, Mrs. Pauline Camp of LaGrange; eight grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Carlton of Wadley; one sister, Mrs. Irene Niblett of Wadley; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Elliott were conducted Sunday afternoon at three o'clock from the Wadley Methodist Church by the Rev. Jimmy L. Willis, pastor of the Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Kit Carson, pastor of the Wadley United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Elliott, Larry Elliott, Waymon Hodges, Robert Johnson, Lamar Reeves, and Elliott Gay. Quattlebaum's Brown-Service Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
