Burial*25 Apr 1950 His body was interred on 25 Apr 1950 at Olive Lawn Cemetery, La Mirada, Los Angeles Co., California
Biography*  There is a question about James Inman Carlisle's place of birth. In census records, he is sometimes listed as having been born in Georgia and sometimes in Alabama. His maternal grandfather, Inman Busby had moved his family to Randolph Co., AL from Georgia by 1860 and his paternal grandmother, the widow, Martha (Elliott) Carlisle, had moved her family to Randolph Co., Alabama from Georgia at least by 1870 and probably during the Civil War after learning of her husband's death. This suggests that James Inman Carlisle's parents probably met and married in Randolph Co., AL. If William and Mary Rebecca (Busby) Carlisle were in Georgia at the time of James Inman's birth, then they returned to Alabama shortly thereafter for the rest of the children were definitely born in Alabama. Mrs. D. O. (Maxine Huggins) Hukkanen, a granddaughter of James Inman Carlisle, wrote that William and Mary Rebecca (Busby) Carlisle moved from Georgia to Alabama shortly after James Inman Carlisle's birth and that James Inman Carlisle "moved from Alabama to Texas 1896-1899" with his wife Lilla and children William Elie and Clemma. James then moved from Texas "to Calif. Nov. 1918 with Lilla, J. D. and J. T." They lived in part of the Lambert ranch house on Lambert Rd., then county. His [James'] second wife, Mary Hess... lived in a house on the west side of Newlin, south of Philadelphia St. An apartment house is there today...."
According to the death certificate, James Inman Carlisle died April 22, at 4:00 a.m. of Coronary Thrombosis which he had suffered on April 15, 1950 and Arterioselerosis which he had had since 1940. J. D. Huggins, who provided the personal information on the death certificate, stated that James Inman Carlisle had not served in the U.S. Armed Forces, that his business was farming and that he had lived in Whittier, CA for 30 years. His usual residence was 111 S. Newlin Avenue in Whittier but he died in the Whittier Rest Home at 122 S. Bright Avenue. Services were held at Siewert-Barber Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, April 25, 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Drennan officiating. The bearers were Crawford Carlisle, James E. Wood, Sam H. Bolen, Edward W. Bushnell, Ozzie Marshall, Jim Stewart. Concluding services were held at Olive Lawn Cemetery.
