Raymond Gerry Poblete1

Male, #53134, (25 Aug 1891 - )
Biography* From Edward A. Martin: I am the Great Grandson of Ramon Poblete, from the Philippines, who was brought to the United States after the Spanish-American War. Records show he was a cook, a musician, and even a Masseur at a local athletic club.2

Birth of Son20 Apr 1917 His son Raymond Gerry Poblete Jr. was born on 20 Apr 1917.3

When I divorced, I took his name (Culpepper), because I needed to identify with someone I was proud of. He was a good man and a good Methodist preacher and highly respected in our neighborhood and in most of St. Clair County. I was present in the house when his wife Alice (Riggins is her maiden name) died of a stroke. She was a nice woman and was always kind to me. We called Mr. Culpepper 'Poppa'. He was the first in our neighborhood to own a TV (black/white) and we would trek up to his house to watch it. I have fond memories of him until in his 90s he developed a dementia that was probably Alzheimer's. Two more years he would have reached his 100th birthday."
