County History and Geography

On the southern High Plains of West Texas, Terry County was formed in 1875 (organized in 1904) from Bexar and Young Territories. Brownfield, its county seat, is 40 miles southwest of Lubbock. Terry County is bordered by the counties of Hockley, Lynn, Dawson, Gaines and Yoakum.
