County History and Geography
In the Blackland
Prairie Region of northeastern Texas, Lamar
County was formed in 1840 from Red River
County. Its county seat, Paris,
is on US-82, about 90 miles northeast of Dallas. Lamar is bordered by the Texas
counties of Red River, Delta and
Fannin, and across
the Red River by the Oklahoma county of Choctaw.
