County History and Geography

In the Texas High Plains Region of the Panhandle, Hale County was formed in 1876 from Young and Bexar Counties. Its county seat, Plainview, is on I-27, about 30 miles north of Lubbock. Hale is bordered by Swisher, Floyd, Lubbock, Castro and Lamb Counties.
