County History and Geography

Grimes County, in southeastern Texas and split between the Post Oak Belt and the Coastal Plain, was formed in 1846 from Montgomery County.  Anderson, the county seat, is the third-largest town in Grimes County and lies forty miles northwest of Houston.  Grimes is bounded by the counties of Madison, Walker, Montgomery, Waller, Washington and Brazos.
