Colorado County

County History and Geography

Spanning the Blackland Prairie and Gulf Prairie regions of Texas, Colorado County was formed in 1836 as an original Texas county. Its county seat, Columbus, is on I-30, about 75 miles west of Houston and 120 miles east of San Antonio. Colorado County is bordered by the counties of Austin, Wharton, Lavaca and Fayette.
