Brunswick County

County History and Geography

In the Inner Coastal Plain and the southeastern part of North Carolina, Brunswick County was formed in 1764 from New Hanover and Bladen Counties. Bolivia, its county seat, is on US-17, about 20 miles southwest of Wilmington and 130 miles south of Raleigh. Brunswick is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Cape Fear River, the North Carolina counties of Columbus, Pender and New Hanover, and the South Carolina county of Horry.
