History

In the Cajun region of coastal Louisiana, Terrebonne Parish was formed in 1822 from Lafourche Parish. Its parish seat, Houma, is on US-90 about 60 miles southwest of New Orleans. Terrebonne is bordered by the parishes of St. Mary, Assumption and Lafourche, as well as by the Gulf of Mexico.
