Highlands County
History
In the
Heartland/South Central Region of Florida, Highlands County was formed in 1921 from
DeSoto County. Its county seat,
Sebring, is on
US-98 about 70 miles south of Orlando and 70 miles southeast of Tampa. Highlands is bordered by the
counties of Polk, Okeechobee,
Glades,
DeSoto and Hardee.
