On California's Pacific Coast, San Luis Obispo County was formed in 1850 as an original California County. Its county seat, San Luis Obispo, is on CA-101, about 175 miles northwest of Los Angeles. San Luis Obispo County is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the counties of Monterey, Kern and Santa Barbara.
