History

In the gold mining country of northern California, Placer County was created in 1851 from Yuba and Sutter Counties. Its county seat, Auburn, is on I-80, about 110 miles northeast of San Francisco. Placer is bordered by the counties of El Dorado, Sacramento, Sutter, Yuba and Nevada, as well as Washoe Co., NV.
