History

Chambers County was created in 1832 from former Creek Indian territory. It is located in the east-central portion of the state in the Piedmont Region. It is bounded by the counties of  Lee, Tallapoosa and Randolph, and on the east by the Chattahoochee River and the Georgia counties of Harris and Troup. Chambers County became a center of the state's textile industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The county seat, LaFayette, is on US-431 about 70 miles northeast of Montgomery and 100 miles southeast of Birmingham.
